Do people really think
that British accent is the strange one between other countries that speak English?
I'm British and I know they are really wrong. The British English was the first language introduced to EEUU, Canada, Australia etc. Is just the best!
I'm pretty sure that
many people not know the existence of the "Commonwealth foundation".
In all the world 57 countries speak English, I mean that´s a lot! and 53 of them are part of this foundation that is ; a Community of nations that have in
common being or having been British or British colonies. So for your knowledge
British English is mainly the first root for all the English around the world,
is just more important than the one in EEUU, you fools.
Why did the British English expanded so much around the world?
Well this is very
important for you to understand all the history of the British language. I know
history sometimes is a little bit boring but this one is really interesting.
As I told you Great Britain is the origin of the English language. They
were many factors that made Queen Elisabeth I decide that she wanted to expand
this culture, this amazing language. The need to find new markets in time of
discoveries, to conquest new lands and to become a modern state are some reasons. The reign of Queen Elizabeth I gave order and prosperity to the English
people, both elements reflected in the growth of religious unification and
greater economic strength. The catholic religion saw the
emigration as a positive factor because they could expand their religion
and also they could practice it without problems.
This was the largest formal empire that the world had ever known. Its power and influence stretched all over the world. I mean the British empire had about one-fifth of world’s population
at those times and covered more than 3,000,000 sq mi, almost a quarter of Earths total land area. You can imagine how it´s political, linguistic and cultural legacy
was really extensive.
Which are the most important places conquered by Great Britain ?
That would be Australia,
Canada and United States of America.
1) In the United States
the colonies conquered by Great Britain were very attached to the religion that
the Britain’s gave them. All the colonies were from the East Coast of North
America and they were 13.
Sooner or later these colonies were going to want Independence, and unfortunately they started a war . The American Revolution war was called "the 13 colonies" because the 13 colonies in the United States that were conquered by British people were the ones that won their independence.
The Americans won this war with the help of other countries that were under the influence of Great Britain and that also wanted the independence. France helped United States in this specific war.
When United States won this war they felt capable to govern themselves and wanted equality and liberty in their nation. They constructed a new strong government, with George Washington as the icon of this war .
When USA was solid, they started to conquest more territories, like México, but that’s another story and I’m not interesting talking about USA, so let’s go back to the theme.
2)In Canada the story is
quite different. There were some internal fights between indigenous people and European
settlers, all for the struggle of land and resources. In this country there was
a fight between France and Great Britain. None of the countries had the governance of these territories, because it was not theirs, but both wanted the domain of
the region of Canada. There was a treat between both countries, but I don’t
remember the name. It really didn’t matter because they entered into a
major war years later called "The war of the 7 years" . Great Britain won the war and French people had to
give half of the country to British people.
WUHUUU Great Britain won this war! Then the French people stayed in Quebec, at the Northwest part of Canada and the British stayed in Toronto, the Eastern part of Canada. That’s why now days you can listen and see that in Canada they speak both languages. Personally I prefer British, ha ha :)
3)In Australia the
southern land was inhabitable and therefore it was not colonized, until the expedition of Great Britain arrived to conquer it. Thousands of British
felt attracted to this interesting land and many of them emigrated from UK. This
factor ruined the idea of the British Government
that was to send the prisoners to this territories.
After many years, the population grew very fast in Australia. For native Australians, despite their British history, they felt different 1322and wanted Independence, like all the other countries that had all ready done. Everything was all right until some native Australians revealed against the British and they started a big war. Sadly Australian people won because it was too difficult for the British to send their troops because of the distance.
